The women imprisoned in the Mexican
federal prison of Puente Grande, Jalisco, offer different
testimonies of their lives and crimes, and tell us about the
emotional experience derived from their confinement. Speaking
from their own intimacy, they reflect upon human condition,
survival and the concept of freedom. This is a thoughtful
and revealing documentary about the day-to-day lives of women
in a Mexican prison. Eschewing the usual approach of TV reportages,
director Guadalupe Miranda goes for a deeper portrayal of
how life behind bars changes one’s perspective of individual
freedom. It also exposes the peculiar idiosyncrasies of the
Mexican justice system. Best Documentary, Biarritz Film Festival.
The
award-winning documentary maker Guadalupe Miranda was born
in Mexico City in 1969. She studied still photography and
then trained as a filmmaker at the Centro de Capacitación
Cinematográfica in Mexico City.
