In July 2001, the leaders of the major industrialized nations met in Genoa, Italy, for their annual G-8 summit. While the heads of states and governments met indoors, nearby about 300,000 anti-globalization activists rallied in the streets. The newly appointed Berlusconi government assembled 20,000 policemen. A face-off was inevitable.

There were riots. Broken windows. Burning buildings. The police swooped in, and soon hundreds of seriously injured protesters were admitted to hospitals with broken ribs, legs, and arms. That is all known.

But STORMING THE SUMMIT goes beyond those facts to suggest an explosive conspiracy. Was the "Black Block" of violent protestors in fact collaborating with the police? Was their destruction staged to give the police an excuse to attack the protestors? STORMING THE SUMMIT explores these and many other explosive questions.

Michael Busse was born in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1941. He studied at the University of Hanover and the University of Grenoble. He has worked as a photographer and camera assistant, as well as a lecturer at the Film and Television school in Berlin, and as a journalist and commissioning editor.

Maria-Rossa Bobbi was born in Piacenza, Italy, and studied at the University of Parma and the University of Genoble. Since 1980, she has worked as a free-lance journalist and filmmaker, collaborating with Michael Busse on some fifty films and reportages.
