Based
on Lieutenant-General Roméo Dallaire’s celebrated
book, this powerful study of heroism and global indifference
recounts Dallaire’s return to Rwanda, ten years after
the UN peace mission he led failed to stop the civil war that
escalated into the genocide of 800,000 Tutsis. A searing indictment
of western complicity, the film offers a candid look at a
man still haunted by his sense of guilt and memories of the
extreme violence. Winner, Audience Award for Best World Cinema
Documentary, Sundance Film Festival.
Peter
Raymont worked at the National Film Board of Canada in Montreal
before moving to Toronto. He has directed more than one hundred
documentaries during his thirty-year career. His numerous
international awards include a Genie for best short documentary
for The World Is Watching (1988).
