SACRIFICIO: Country of
production: Sweden An explosive re-examination of the betrayal and assassination of Argentinean revolutionary icon Ernesto "Che" Guevara. In 1970s Bolivia, the CIA and others captured and interrogated French intellectual Regis Debray and Argentinean artist Ciro Bustos. Both were said to know of Che's whereabouts. The canonical story goes that Debray revealed nothing, while Bustos betrayed Che's whereabouts to interrogators, who then had Che killed. This explosive film suggests that story is dead wrong. Across three continents, the filmmakers track down and interview Bustos, Debray, CIA and Bolivian military figures, and several other participants in Che's final days. They also interview vaunted historians of that time. Over the course of the film, the filmmakers construct an alternative and highly plausible account of the reasons for Che's death - an account that will not sit well with those raised on the leftist legends of the 60s and 70s. Manically composed, SACRIFICIO vigorously brings one of the 20th century's most explosive and controversial figures back to startling new life. Directors:
