Just over 50 years ago, Robert Capa
died in Indochina. The icon of a whole generation of photojournalists,
Capa embodied the very spirit of adventure. He was a romantic
hero, a legendary photographer who met a tragic end. Yet,
very little exists on the real man on film. This documentary
centers on the photo that “made” Capa’s
reputation: the image of the Spanish Republican mortally wounded
in front of his camera. The question of the photo’s
authenticity becomes the ”knot” of this story.
That shot came to be regarded as illustrating Capa’s
guiding principle: the closer you get to the action, the better
the photo and its impact! Despite many contradictions, Capa’s
legend lives on.
Patrick Jeudy, Director, writer and producer for the French
company Pont du Jour. He has been working as a director since
1977.
