Country of production: Netherlands
Year: 1996
Language: Japanese, etc
55 mins.

"The almost whispering atmosphere of the film reminds us of Ozu." (NRC HANDELSBLAD)

Festivals included: Rotterdam, Bombay, Tehran

Fifty years after the atomic bombs obliterated Hiroshima and Nagasaki, NAGASAKI STORIES reveals private recollections of some of those who survived the bomb. Mr. Kyushiro Kusakabe, a former reporter who lost his mother and wife, travels from Tokyo to Nagasaki with his sister-in-law. By the time we reach the city, we have learned about pre-war Nagasaki, and come to know the man's history, as well as the histories of several others. These stories are dramatically contrasted with the town we see.
