FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MARCH 2008
THE CHICAGO INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FESTIVAL TO HOST U.S. PREMIERE
OF "MR. BIG", APRIL 11 & 12, 2008
CHICAGO, IL – The docsPace series of Chicago International
Documentary Festival (CIDF) will showcase the U.S. premiere of the
provocative documentary film "Mr. Big" on April 11 &
12, 2008 at 7:00 PM at the Gallery Theatre, 1112 N. Milwaukee Ave.,
Chicago. A discussion with director Tiffany Burns will follow the
presentation.
The
film is a critical expose about the Canadian police operation called
Mr. Big, a little-known undercover sting initiated for the purpose
of eliciting confessions from suspects of crimes where little forensic
evidence exists. This shocking documentary forces us to question
the tactics used by authorities in criminal investigations, especially
in the wake of the controversy surrounding The Patriot Act. Could
coercive tactics, such as those employed by Mr. Big, represent the
future of criminal investigation in America? Doug Davison, Producer
of The Departed, calls Mr. Big "the best
documentary I’ve seen in years. This is a movie people need
to see."
Director
Tiffany Burns, a professional journalist, was personally affected
by Mr. Big when her brother was targeted by the undercover sting
and subsequently jailed for a crime which he maintains he did not
commit. Following the screening, Ms. Burns will engage the audience
in a question and answer discussion about the issues surrounding
the film, including the fairness of undercover police tactics like
those used by Mr. Big.
Tickets
are $8 for general admission, $7 for students and seniors. Please
