LOSS Country
of production: Germany Something is missing from the German landscape: its Jewish population. In this formally daring lament, a series of non-Jewish German intellectuals speak about their own experiences coming of age after the War. In various ways, they came to realize that something was missing from their country, which was profoundly worse for and traumatized by that loss. The speakers are matted digitally over a very small number of long take images taken out the window of a train moving across the German landscape. This counterpoint gives the speakers' words an immediate and stirring resonance in relation to the subject that they are discussing. Director:
