1500 asylum seekers have been sent to live in Hull, in the north of England. Tina, a former housewife, sets out to help them despite local hostility. Tina's daughter Nicola is the first to marry an asylum seeker: Mohammed, a Kurdish Iraqi. Tina herself is in a trying relationship with an asylum seeker half her age. What are the real motivations here?
