This documentary tells the story of
the Vera Cruz harbor labor union, of the mafias and the corruption
of the past. The union members recall how, in the good old
days, one could stroll down the docks and steal whatever he
wanted. In these times, being a union member was one of life’s
greatest privileges. All this was lost in 1991 when the federal
government embargoed their installations and offered them
to a private company. The union became homeless. Some members
committed suicide; others continue to protest at the main
plaza of the city of Vera Cruz. They want their empire back.
Some sit and hope, others reminisce, but history has been
written and now for many it is just a matter of waiting to
win the battle or to die.
Martín
Boege was born in México in 1977. He specialized in
cinematography at the Centro de Capacitacion Cinematografica.
Since 2000 he has worked as a cinematographer and director
of documentaries, short and feature films.
