DUST Country
of production: Ukraine / UK DUST is a beautiful portrait of three women who are among the last remaining Jews in Odessa, once a flourishing center of Yiddish culture. The story of their lives is in many ways the story of the city, which his now a faded relic of its former self. Esther is eccentric and funny, yet tragic. She has led a rich life, full of fascinating experiences as well as the torments of war, anti-Semitism, and Communism. Her dilapidated room, in one of the poorest quarters of Odessa, is characteristic of the ruined state of her life and the life of Jews in the city. She sings her traditional Yiddish songs, she dances, she plays the piano - all this transforms her home into a salon where Esther's old friends Tanya and Valery come to life once more. Director:
