Here’s the story of the Romanian baby boom generation, willed into being by dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. Anxious to create a new Romania, Ceausescu, in 1966, issued Decree 770, in which he forbade abortion (excepting women over 40 or those already taking care of four children) and banned all forms of contraception. By 1969, the country had a million babies more than the previous average. Thousands of kindergartens were built overnight and the new generation forced to participate in sports and cultural activities. Romania’s tremendous demographic boom even led to the country’s hosting a world conference on population in 1974. To revisit this period of oppression, the film blends interesting archival footage, excerpts from old fiction films and interviews with famous personalities from the time. Ironically, the new generation, on which Ceausescu had pinned all his hopes, reached maturity in 1989 – the year when the country rose against and executed the dictator and his wife.

In 1998, Florin Iepan became the author, producer and director of a TV series based on the Romanian underground musical scene called Sub-Cult-Era. Iepan set up his own film and TV production company a year later, Sub-Cult-Era…, and created, directed and produced the TV series “Journey in the Land Of The Eclipse” and “Seven Stories From Beyond”.
