This is the first documentary to be
entirely shot with the video function of a cell phone. Ed
Lachman, cameraman on films like Far From Heaven and co-director
of Ken Park, made four ultra-short films in which people tell
tall tales about their cell phones. The image is divided into
six segments that chop up the narrator and visualize the story.
In “Bear,” a man remembers a picnic where he was
attacked by a bear. He was saved by his ringing phone, which
scared the bear to such an extent that he ran off. In “Taxi,”
a woman tells that she once left her phone in a New York cab
and dialed her own number when she got home. The man who answered
has been her lover for months now. “OTB” introduces
a man who was betrayed by his cell phone. While he was gambling
at the horse track on work time, his phone accidentally called
his boss, who then heard his employee shouting from the stands.
In ”Dog,” a boy recounts how the neighbors' Rottweiler
aimed for his leg, but instead bit the pocket with his cell
phone.
