On the streets of Riga, Eriks and Daniels preach both the
Gospel and their version of a modern Christian lifestyle.
Although friends, they hold opposing views of life –
that of an extreme materialist and extreme idealist. They
get their sense of mission from the Bible, their manual for
living. Working against the backdrop of the emergence of charismatic
new sects, determined to corner the religious market, they
are ordinary people trying to embrace fanatical faith in the
face of the temptations and demands of everyday life. Director
Juris Poskus applies techniques commonly used with actors
to the real environment and real city to tell their story.
Juris
Poskus studied English language and literature at the University
of Latvia in 1986–1992. For the next three
years studied and worked in film in California. He
has also worked as a moderator on radio. BUT THE HOUR IS NEAR
won Best Documentary at the National Film Festival Lielais
Kristaps in 2003.
