BLOODLINES: Country
of production: Canada The limits of science, and the limits of culture. BLOODLINES takes place mostly in two coveted locations for human genetic research: Newfoundland and Iceland. These rugged North Atlantic islands have extremely homogeneous populations, as well as excellent genealogical records. This makes it easier for scientists to trace diseases and other features throughout history. The scientists are willing to pay big money for access to the population and its records. This entices some people, whose economies are based in the unstable fishing business. It also frightens others, who worry that such information may be used for less than healthy reasons. Director:
Wendy Rowland Director Wendy Rowland was one of four emerging filmmakers across Canada chosen to participate in the National Film Board's prestigious Fast Forward program. While she was with the NFB, she directed, produced, and edited her own documentary work, and collaborated with other filmmakers. Thursday,
