The music of the spheres meets its visual
companion in this celestial short documentary.
This film presents the inventive work
of two French brothers, François and Bernard Baschet, creators since
the 1950s of unusual, elegant sound sculptures and musical instruments.
Interwoven throughout the film are a variety of performances and clips
from film and television, including scenes from THE TESTAMENT OF ORPHEUS
(directed by Jean Cocteau), DREAM OF WILD HORSES (Colomb de Daunant),
and even THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW.
Stylistically mirroring the sculptures' highly reflective stainless
steel surfaces, the film shows how the Baschets' work expresses a unique
fusion of their political, social, and aesthetic philosophies.
Eric Marin
has produced, directed, shot and edited several contemporary music and
performance documentaries. His works have screened on PBS and The Learning
Channel, as well as at festivals and various venues worldwide. His film
awards include the Nissan FOCUS documentary award and the Western States
Regional Media Fellowship.
