TREES is, powerfully and affectionately, the story of trees throughout the world. The film weaves an intricate parallel history of trees and men, investigating the fascinating idea that, among plants, the tree fills the role played by man among animals - that of supreme representative. TREES is a voyage through space and time, inhabited by trees that talk and walk, are shy and sometimes crazy. The film challenges many traditional ideas, as well as ways of doing things - for example the fact that, while we often admire the creatures running along its branches, we rarely admire the tree itself. The film is rooted in a world between worlds, in which the fabulous escapes all scientific understanding, and scientific knowledge becomes a fairy tale through the magic of cinema. Sophie Bruneau
