SHALOM IRELAND is a celebration of Ireland's remarkable, yet little known Jewish community. From gun running for the Irish Republican Army during Ireland's War of Independence to smuggling fellow Jews escaping from the Holocaust into Palestine, the film tells the untold story of how Irish Jews participated in the creation and development of both Ireland and Israel.

SHALOM IRELAND features several prominent Irish Jews including Robert Briscoe, the first Jew elected Lord Mayor of Dublin; Rabbi Isaac Herzog, the renowned Talmudic scholar who not only served as the first Chief Rabbi of Ireland but was also the first Chief Rabbi of Israel; and Rabbi Herzog's son, Chaim Herzog, who became President of Israel. Today, as their population declines and their culture is in jeopardy of becoming extinct, Irish Jews have launched an effort to revitalize Ireland's once vibrant Jewish community.

Lapin Ganley has some twenty years experience working on documentary television programs and series, including for PBS and KQED (San Francisco). She has won two Emmy awards. SHALOM IRELAND was inspired by her discovery that her Lithuanian great-grandparents were the first Jewish couple married in Waterford, Ireland, and is the filmmaker's feature-length directorial debut
