A concrete jungle with blinding neon lights,
Hong Kong's technological marvels wash over and swallow up people walking
down the streets.
Istiaq, from Pakistan,
and Miyuki, from Japan, live in the same part of Hong Kong but have
never met. Istiaq is a 26-year-old airline officer and cricket champion.
He draws strength from his religion - but it's hard to remain a strict
Muslim when all the rules are flouted around you. 21-year-old Miyuki
has survived numerous suicide attempts, lives a life with no apparent
focal point, working day and night until she collapses. She accepts
the camera's presence, telling it her secrets and allowing it into her
most private moments - but she challenges the viewer to accept solitude
and despair as facts of life.
Young lives, struggling for independence from religion, capitalism,
and solitude, within the over-saturated Hong Kong streets.
Filippo Lilloni was born in Parma,
Italy, in 1971. He studied at the University of Bahia, in Brazil, and
at UCLA Film School in Los Angeles. He works as an editor and assistant
director.
