The 500,000 men and women released from prison each year face many unknowns. How will you survive with only $200 "gate money" and little support from elsewhere? How does an extended stay in prison affect your ability to live beyond the metal bars? Through three people's personal histories,
observations, remembrances, hopes, and fears, A HARD STRAIGHT paints
a tough, compassionate portrait of people trying to stop doing time
and instead go straight. Goro Toshima's
work life has included salmon fishing in Alaska, translating Japanese
in New York, and working in television production. After completing
a masters degree program in documentary film at Stanford University,
he worked as an assistant editor. Sunday 04-Apr-2004 3:00 PM Gallery Theatre
