Ukraine - A Birth Of The Nation: For Ages Together

The third installment of a four part series dedicated to the cultural and political history of Ukraine, acclaimed director Jerzy Hoffman follows the country from the 1920's through the end of the Second World War. Extensive Interviews with historians combined with unique archival footage paint a raw and immediate portrait of a nation dramatically fighting for its independence.

Jerzy Hoffman was born in Cracow, Poland in 1932. One of the most revered Polish filmmakers. In 1940, he was deported together with his parents to Siberia. He graduated from the National Film Institute in Moscow, USSR (WGiK) in 1955. He made his debut with a short documentary Are You Among Them? in 1954. He has made over 30 documentaries and 13 feature films, including the Academy-nominated Deluge and With Fire and Sword, the largest film production in Polish film industry. All his films until 1966 were co-directed by Edward Skorzewski. His films received numerous awards, including Oberhausen, Venice, Moscow IFF. In 2006 honored with “Eagle”, the Polish Film Academy Award for the Life Achievement. Recipient of the highest state honors in Poland and Ukraine.
