Tampico
Tampico
is an original Chicago icon, she is also the last member of
her musically gifted family carrying on the tradition of performance
in the hopes of providing for herself and her 50-year-old
mentally challenged brother. Tampico’s concert halls
are the subways of Chicago and her audience the busy commuters
who whiz by her on El trains. This riveting and insightful
doc takes viewers into Tampico’s life outside of the
subway stations where she spends her days hoping to earn enough
money for food. Raised in low-income housing on Chicago's
Near West Side, Tampico’s history is as complicated
and spellbinding as the city she hails from. Ultimately this
gem of a short tells the story of the choices people make
-- complicated choices -- that inform who they are and where
they come from.
Suree
Towfighnia was born and mostly raised in Chicago. she is an
independent filmmaker who makes her living directing documentaries
and commercials. She received her MFA from Columbia College
Chicago, where she was adjunct faculty in documentary film/video
department. She is also co-founder of praire Dust Film.
