Chicago
International Documentary Festival Announces Locations
Friday March 30th – Sunday, April 8th 2007
Chicago,
IL – The Chicago International Documentary Festival
(CIDF) today announced that screenings for the 2007 festival
will be held at eight well-appointed and accessible Chicago
area theatres and cultural venues.
The
opening night gala is scheduled for Friday, March 30th, 2007
at the Pritzker Auditorium located in the Harold Washington
Chicago Public Library at 400 S. State Street. This splendid
downtown location in the world’s largest public library
features a 400 seat, state-of-the-art auditorium and its central
location, in the heart of Chicago’s “loop,”
will be a treat for our out-of-town guests.
The
closing night festivities, including the closing night screening
and pre-screening reception, will be held Saturday, April
7th, 2007 at Doc Films -Max Palevsky Cinema, 1212 E. 59th
Street. Doc is located on the picturesque, ivy-covered grounds
of the University of Chicago’s main campus in Hyde Park.
It features a 500-seat auditorium as well as ample free parking.
The
Festival’s host theatre and primary location will be
the Society For Art’s Gallery Theatre, 1112 N. Milwaukee
Avenue. This elegant, 75-seat theatre is minutes away from
downtown Chicago and central to every Festival event. Located
within an art gallery, it also features guest suites, a bar,
reception space, reserved parking and access to public transit.
The
Chopin Theatre, 1543 West Division Street, will screen many
festival films and house the Festival’s 24-hour filmmaker
lounge. Just steps from the Gallery Theatre, the eclectic
and energetic Chopin site is an artsy, 250-seat space with
a 100 seat auxiliary studio theatre, a café, plus on-site
film & video facilities, and easily accessible from public
transit.
The
Wilmette Theatre, located at 1122 Central Avenue in Wilmette,
IL, is proud to join the list of CIDF venues this year. Located
in downtown Wilmette, this 200-seat, recently remodeled two-screen
cinema with a unique family ambience, and ample free off-street
parking, serves all Northwestern suburbs.
Other
venues hosting screenings include the Beverly Arts Center,
2407 West 111th Street, a contemporary 400-seat theatre, with
a café, gift shop and ample free parking, located in
Chicago’s historic Southside Beverly Hills neighborhood;
Portage Theatre, 4050 N. Milwaukee Avenue, an atmospheric,
1300-seat recently remodeled theatre situated on the city’s
North side that houses a mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ used
for silent films; and the Cinematheque at Facets Multimedia,
1517 W. Fullerton Avenue. Located in the heart of Chicago’s
Lincoln Park community, the Cinematheque is a 125-seat theatre
flanking a video/DVD rentals store and concessions area and
offers plenty of street parking. Facets is a routine for many
Chicago area "indie" film lovers.
