Orange Revolution
The
presidential candidate poisoned, the election stolen and the
citizens outraged – filmmaker Steve York caught ever
moment of Ukraine's Orange Revolution on tape and presents
it here in vivid and captivating detail. Early in the campaign
the people’s candidate, Viktor Yushchenko, had been
poisoned, narrowly escaping an attempt on his life that left
him with chronic pain and his face disfigured. Outraged and
determined, people came by the hundreds of thousands, from
every part of the country to Kiev to protest. They marched
to show their disapproval, set up tent cities and formed human
barricades around government buildings. Kiev restaurants donate
food, citizens brought clothing and blankets and rock bands
provided entertainment. Despite freezing temperatures the
masses stayed in the streets demanding reforms in the election
process. From the frontlines footage, interviews with media
personalities and Yushchenko himself provide this affecting
and inspiring doc with a contagious spirit reminiscent of
that which infected Kiev in 2004. The people’s unwavering
determination became known as the Orange Revolution and set
Ukraine on the path to a new era.
