Lima's Streets
Begging,
stealing and fighting are everyday realities for the street
kids of Lima, Peru. From an early age they are taught to approach
tourists and beg for money often learning key words like “please”
and “hungry” in English. The older kids quite
proudly talk about stealing from passers-by and sniffing glue
to get high. Amidst the neon lights and the din of traffic
these children struggle for survival in what one motorist
calls “a mecca of crime.”
Marcelo
Bukin was born in Buenos Aires. At the age of nineteen
after his studies in technical architecture and design he
set out to europe. Graduated with honors in film direction
from Centre d'Estudis Cinematografics de Catalunya in Barcelona,
Spain.
