Those Who Stayed Behind
In
April 1980 some ten thousand people jumped the fence of the
Peruvian Embassy in Havana and were subsequently urged by
their fellow Cubans to leave the country´. A ´self'styled
revolutionary mother Carmen Barreras, find herself torn between
her love for her son and her loyalty to the country´s
socialist cause. Although she has had no contact with him
since he left, the film gives an intimate insight into Carmen´s
contradictory feelings and loyalties. A moving and honest
portrayal of an intelligent and dedicated woman faced with
a profound conflict. She says that while she has finally come
to respect her son´s decision to leave, she still can´t
accept it.
Benito
Zambrano was born in 1964 in Lebrija, Sevilla, Spain. First
studied in Arte Dramatico en el Indtituto de Teatro in Sevilla.
