The Martian Invasion
In
1953 a young Cuban boy wrote to Samual Goldwyn of MGM asking
for work in the MGM strudio, (despite his missing tooth).
Now a doctor, he and other friends of his youth look back
on how they turned rejection by Hollywood into a stimulus
to write, produce and direct their own films throughout the
fiftiers and early sixties. Mainly silent, black and white
and shot on 8mm, the films come to life again as the one-time
challengers to Hollywood (who went on to be a butcher, an
electrician, a grocer etc) reflect on their glorious cinematic
lives which once drew cheering local crowds to the town´s
cinema. Their movement spirit was revived by the establishment
of the EICTV nearby in 1986.
Wolney
Oliveira was born in Fortaleza, Brazil in 1960. Filmmaker
and Festival Cine Ceara Director. His films include: Milagre
em Juazeiro (1991), Os Velhos Marinheiros, Borracha
para Vitoria.
