Blindsided
When
eleven-year-old Jared starts to lose his sight, the once close-knit
Hara family starts to unravel. The result of a rare hereditary
disease, Jared’s sudden blindness throws his parents
and sister into a whirlwind of guilt, blame, sadness and loss
- all of which is honestly and openly presented in this riveting
debut documentary from Talia Osteen. As Jared’s parents
try to hold on to their marriage, Jared’s own candid
insights about his blindness and the effect it has on his
family provide a moving backdrop for this inspiring film about
self-discovery and determination. Forced to give up his one
true passion, hockey, Jared’s need for a creative outlet
takes him to the guitar, which he quickly masters and which
brings him the opportunity of a lifetime courtesy of his favorite
band, Shinedown. Together with his steadfast friend Ali, Jared
finds the courage to resume many of his typical daily activities
and to take on a few challenges he never though possible.
In turn, Jared’s strength of character and resilience
give his family the inspiration to fight to stay together.
